Just as you maintain your car, to keep it running efficiently and prevent failures, you understand that it’s important to get regular tune ups for your heating and air conditioning systems. A heating or cooling system is also mechanical, with moving parts, oils, electricity, and filters. Regular tune ups extend the life of your equipment and keep it running at peak efficiency.

Furnace Tune Up & Air Conditioning Tune Up FAQ's:

1. How often should I get a heating/cooling tune up? Most experts and manufacturers recommend annual tune ups.
2. What time of year is best? The best time to have your equipment tuned up is before the seasons start. For your heating equipment that would be in the fall (Sept-Oct) and for your cooling equipment in the spring (Apr-May). The sooner the better because if you wait until it is too late not only do you take the chance of a breakdown but also the hotter/cooler it gets the busier we get.
3. Should I replace parts even though they work? This is really a judgement call that you should make an informed decision about. For starters, you should always ask to see the problem to make sure there really is one. After that it is up to you, but it is kind of like replacing your tires. Once they get worn down they are not going to be as efficient for you, and there is a chance they could cause a more serious problem.
4. How do I know the work was done correctly? Always look for a company that guarantees their work. For example, we have a No-Breakdown Guarantee where if your unit does breakdown in the same season we will credit back the cost of your tune up towards the repairs that are required. This way you are not out any money.
5. What should be done on a tune up? Be careful. Not all companies provide the same level of service. We have adopted a national program that is used by hundreds of contractors across the country. Be sure to read the lists of what is included in our tune ups.

Heating system tune ups save you money. When your furnace is operating efficiently, you save money on energy costs. Tuning up your heating system now, can help you avoid that big emergency repair later. You also save money by extending the life of the furnace itself.

Furnace tune ups are important for your health too! Improperly operating furnaces can produce carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is an odorless but deadly gas. We recommend that you install carbon monoxide detectors, and have your furnace tuned up annually. Your family's health is too important.

Some DIY Maintenance Tips

Here are a few items you can do yourself to help maintain your system.

  • Make sure to change your filter. At a minimum you should change it every three months, sometimes more depending on how dirty it gets.
  • If you have an electronic filter system clean your filter per the manual, usually sending it through a dishwasher or spraying it with a hose will work.
  • Clean the area around your outdoor unit of any leaves and debris.
  • Switch your humidifier from winter to summer mode, and vice versa.
  • Clean dust and smaller particles out of any filter grills located around your house.
  • In the winter cover your air conditioner about 3/4 from the top. If you have a heat pump system DO NOT cover your unit.
